Knowledge transfer for Agribusiness Innovations, Training of Innovation Coaches, International technology networking and Creation of business linkages
Context
Almost two decades after the 2003 war, Iraq remains caught in a fragility trap, facing increasing political instability and growing social unrest. Amid a multitude of crises, including an oil price shock and the COVID-19 pandemic, Iraq had its worst annual growth performance in 2020 since the fall of Saddam Hussein. Amidst Iraq’s economic meltdown, agri-food can play a pivotal role in turning the economy around and putting it back on a sustainable growth track. It can attract much-needed private sector investment at a time of government cash crunch and create jobs quickly.
To tackle the challenges described above the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has commissioned GIZ’s Private Sector Development & Employment Promotion (PSD) Project in Iraq.
Project description
The Private Sector Development & Employment Promotion (PSD) Project in Iraq is a multi- donor action commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. It is supporting the development and piloting of business models in sectors with a strong potential for new job creation. As part of this work stream, the GIZ PSD project has launched the project “Knowledge transfer for Agribusiness Innovations, Training of Innovation Coaches, International technology networking and Creation of business linkages”.
This program aims to promote knowledge transfer, skill development and expert exchange for and with Iraqi entrepreneurs, companies and private sector organizations from the Agribusiness sector for the growth of the private sector (and job creation) through linking up with international networks. Beside the brokerage and transfer of the knowledge for technological and economical innovation effective partnerships, collaboration and dynamic stakeholder networks shall be initiated and supported as well as the co-creation of new structures and set ups for better agribusiness deals and higher income in the sector.
AMBERO-Cordaid-CINOP is specifically implementing Lot 2 “Training and Coaching of Innovation Coaches” which aims to coach 25 Iraqi agribusiness professionals in providing their knowledge to MSMEs in the agribusiness sector. In a one-year training and coaching phase, the Innovation Coaches (ICs) shall gain the knowledge about how to evaluate efficiency potentials, how to initiate and maintain innovation processes, how to guide change, how to elaborate recommendations for specific agribusiness value chains (VC).
At the end of the one-year program, these Innovation Coaches will be ready to provide consultancies to (M)SMEs, Entrepreneurs, and Private Sector Organizations from the Agribusiness Sector.
