Strengthening of Social Infrastructure in Municipalities strained by the Refugee Crisis
Through the Programme “Strengthening of Social Infrastructure in Municipalities strained by the refugee crisis” social infrastructure facilities in structurally weak municipalities and/or municipalities strained by migration flows are rehabilitated, extended or newly constructed.
The objective of the Programme is to improve social infrastructure services for the local population and especially vulnerable groups, like minorities (e.g. Roma) or returnees on the municipality level. If relevant, access to social infrastructure services for transiting migrants shall be improved in the Programme municipalities.
In addition, local job opportunities shall be created through the implementation of the individual construction works.
As a result, the pressure to migrate for the local population shall be reduced and the conflict potential between (transiting) migrants (if applicable) and the local population shall be mitigated.
The Programme covers 27 social infrastructure projects in 16 municipalities in Serbia, which concern the following social infrastructure sectors: Kindergarden, Elementary School, Technical School, Special Needs, Social Protection and Health.
- to monitor and report on the preparation and implementation of the Programme. The subject of monitoring and reporting concerns the activities of the Public Investment Management Office (PIMO), and the activities of other stakeholders related to the preparation and implementation of the infrastructure sub-projects financed by the German Government through KfW and the sub-projects financed by the Republic of Serbia in the framework of the Programme.
- to prepare and implement visibility and communication activities in the framework of the Programme.
