Train the Trainers Fortbildung für die zukünftigen Ausbilder des Kommunalverwaltungspersonals in Burundi

In Bujumbura, Burundi, 34 state officials and civil society representatives attended a five-week-training. The participants came from Burundi’s 17 provinces and the training ended on the 3rd August. The consortium PEM/ AMBERO/IP Consult conducted the training which covered 10 topics. These included decentralization, municipal financing, local democracy and municipal constructing ownership. The use of innovative pedagogic teaching methods in form of group work, case studies, debates and discussions were crucial aspects of the workshop.

The 34 participants now in turn have the task of training personnel of the Burundi´s municipal authorities. The courses will begin in six pilot provinces next fall and will then expand, in order to cover the entire country.

At the end of 2012 PEM/AMBERO/IP Consult supported the drafting of a 3-year national training-plan which aims to develop the capacities of decentralized actors, with a focus on the elected municipal authorities and their staff. After ratifying the plan, the Ministry of Municipal Development wanted the planned trainings to start as soon as possible.

Burundi has been actively pursuing a decentralization process since 2005 and AMBERO Consulting has been supporting the process on behalf of GIZ.
