Unfortunately non-regulated land use and rapid settlements causes environmental damage and loss of natural resources. The Central American Social Integration Secretariat (SISCA) is fostering policy dialogue and knowledge transfer between the member countries for a sustainable and integrative spatial development. Practical tools and participatory approaches are missing for a better coordination of a coherent spatial planning approach.
The project aims to test the design and implementation of strategies and instruments on sustainable spatial development in selected SICA member state countries (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic).
In the second phase of the project the consortium is responsibe for fullfilling indicator 2: Approaches regarding climate change adaptation, disaster risk prevention, economic development and gender equality are integrated within the spatial planning strategies and instruments of selected member countries.
